I've been living in the home of the woman I take care of and I receive 43 hours a week @$13.85 from ihss but in oct of last year her income went up by not even $100.00 but medi-cal said she needed to pay a s.o.c. of $898.00 to me and that ihss would cover the rest. She only gets $1,500 a month so with bills, food , and incontinence supplies how they think she can pay me that much is crazy. Fast forward to oct this year medi-cal has completely cut her off of ihss so she is getting no services (me) paid for. I've tried asking for help from her social worker because this isn't right she's 69 years old and disabled without me she wouldn't eat , get out of bed , change herself she just not able to do anything for herself. She has two sons one lives in another state and he never calls the second son is a thief and we had to kick him out. The thief son is my ex boyfriend so shes more then just a recipient. I really don't know how to help her or where to turn but I'm going broke. I don't want her to go into a home. Any advice is welcomed ...thanks in advance

You need to try to work with the Medi-cal eligibility worker and her social worker if you are trying to help your employer. If she no longer qualifies for IHSS and has to self-pay then you need find new employment she since can longer afford your services. IHSS aid self directed, shes your employer. When she was cut off, technically your employment ended if she didn’t hire you privately. Try contacting the local area on aging as well. But I honestly try to get her help through social services. If she spends down that $800 on her care (like on insurance policies and medicine) then she should be able to get IHSS. Social services is the best place to get help with that though. Good luck

You inform the social worker that as of XX/XX/XX date you will move out since you are no longer getting paid. (2 weeks should be plenty)
I don't know if this could be reported to the labor board for not getting paid...
But as of the date you tell the social worker you will no longer be responsible for care move out. This woman is not your responsibility.
You might want to find another job between now and then

she doesn’t need to inform the social worker of anything. She needs to inform the woman she cares for. IHSS is self directed. Her boss is the woman she works for

Cali has given you solid advice. Does someone have durable PoA for her? If not does she understand that having this in place is important for her best interest if/when she can no longer make informed decisions?

I'm curious as to why you don't want her to go into a care facility? Does she currently have an active social life? If not, in a facility she will have more than just you for community. Many facilities are not as bad as you perceive. My MIL is in a decent place and even just her interaction with the multiple staff helps her to feel less isolated. Just throwing that out there so you can have another perspective on this situation.

My suggestion to inform the Social Worker was so that this woman would not be left unattended in her home for an unknown period of time.
She, the unpaid worker, probably has no legal responsibility to do so but I think she has a moral responsibility to inform someone

Just happened to a neighbor. The woman's husband died 6 yrs ago. Since then, she has had paid caregivers and family to help. But the woman is a witch so family has backed off. Caregiver called APS to inform them she had not been paid in 4 weeks. Seems neighbor is out of money. Caregiver said her last day would be _____ so APS needed to come in because this woman would be alone. APS did and removed the woman from her home. Last I heard, they were waiting for a room in LTC.

Poster has not been back.
